Readers' Poll

Hi everyone. Will be posting another chapter in a moment but in the meantime, I thought I'd put up that poll I mentioned doing, to check the status of the many people friended to this LJ who haven't commented. I've tried to keep the questions as neutral as possible. Hope I succeeded.

Date: 2007-01-10 11:29 am (UTC)Anyway, I'm completely behind and I'm probably not very hip, but I'm going to probably splash here again, perhaps when you've just about closed up shop.
Are a lot of people reading and not commenting? Because of course when I read I always comment, so that won't be the case for me. And in a weird way I'm following it a little since Kitty is following it.

Are a lot of people reading and not commenting?
I don't know. That's what I'm trying to find out. Looking at the poll results so far, the majority who've signed up and not commented just haven't managed to get round to reading it yet. However, I'm sure lots of people haven't seen it yet.

Date: 2007-01-10 02:48 pm (UTC)In fact, I deliberately didn't include a question aimed at people who do comment but just not very often. I have them down as commenters, no matter the frequency. I know lots of people are busy and just don't have time to comment on every part, especially when a story is as long as this one.
It's nice to see you whenever you drop in, though.

Date: 2007-01-10 04:14 pm (UTC)I didn't respond to the poll because, of course, I'm both reading and commenting, although not on every chapter. But I'd be very interested to know whether there are a lot of lurkers reading and not commenting.
Is there any chance you could post the poll results for everyone to see?

Date: 2007-01-10 06:47 pm (UTC)I think I won't actually do that, though of course people can go and look at the results if they want.
I was just interested, that's all.

Date: 2007-01-10 06:48 pm (UTC)Thanks for letting me know. I know there are all sorts of reasons why people haven't commented or have read and not commented (that happens all the time on LJ) - I was just interested to know the proportions.

Date: 2007-01-10 07:25 pm (UTC)It could be the kink. Really, who knows. In Soapstone, I worked harder on the latest chapter and it got the least results. Also fb seems down lately. I can see people are reading but they aren't commenting as much.
I really can't figure things sometimes.

I'll take this opportunity to thank you for commenting the way you have been. I really, really appreciate it.
Do understand that RL comes first though, so I know there's bound to be times when you won't be able to do it.

Date: 2007-01-11 09:22 am (UTC)To be honest, I'm surprised no one has yet ticked the box that says 'I read a few chapters and decided the story wasn't for me.' Someone may still do so, though.

Date: 2007-01-11 09:29 am (UTC)If you ever feel like leaving comments, that's fine, but otherwise just knowing you've been reading and enjoying is fine too. That was the purpose of this poll really.

Nice to meet you and to know you're enjoying the story. Not commenting till the end is fine. I certainly didn't expect everyone to comment on every part for the simple reason that I know how busy people are. I'm just glad you've wanted to find time in your schedule to read the story.
Thanks for letting me know.

It's hardly been a hardship to comment. This is one of the most riveting stories I've ever read and I eagerly await every update. Even though it's not Spander! *gasp* I'm lucky that I have more time online than most of your readers and haven't had any problems keeping up so far. I can't guarantee that'll continue but I'm hoping.
The size of your posts is perfect for me. Just long enough to get into but not so long it's intimidating. Perfect!

Date: 2007-01-11 03:22 pm (UTC)But really, what I wanted to say is, I'm still reading the story, and I'm still loving it, and what'll probably happen is I'll give you one HUGE comment at the end of the story... But I'll try to break the habit and comment more in the future. ^_^

Date: 2007-01-12 11:50 am (UTC)I was trying to see if I could write a proper slave fic but as usual, best laid plans etc
As for f/b being down in general, I don't post fic often enough to know really. It comes in waves and sadly has no bearing on how much work we've put into our writing.

Date: 2007-01-12 11:54 am (UTC)Glad to hear it. Sue only got 1000 words at a time. It seemed to work quite nicely (even if it was 10 months before she got the whole story).

Don;t worry about not commenting often. Like I've said to quite a few people in this thread, if you comment occasionally, I have you down as a commenter. The poll was really aimed at the large number of people friended to the LJ who haven't commented at all. At least I know what some of them are up to now.
Thanks for commenting here and it'll be great to hear from you whenever you do have time but really don't worry about not being able to do it more often.

Date: 2007-01-14 05:06 pm (UTC)I know it's an awful lot of to get through and it must seem very daunting at this juncture. However, if you ever do feel like giving it a go it'll be here. RL is going to get busier for me from next month so I may not be able to post quite so frequently.

Date: 2007-01-16 04:11 am (UTC)Could you friend me?
Date: 2007-01-22 03:44 pm (UTC)I adored your Furnitureverse; would you mind friending me so I can read Coming of Age? I read Furnitureverse when I was Pissedotter but I deleted that journal to stop me spending so much time on the web. Here I am back again as justanapple - apparently I can 'resist anything except temptation!' Very excited to see you have another series.
