Readers' Poll

Hi everyone. Will be posting another chapter in a moment but in the meantime, I thought I'd put up that poll I mentioned doing, to check the status of the many people friended to this LJ who haven't commented. I've tried to keep the questions as neutral as possible. Hope I succeeded.

[Poll #903979]

[identity profile] sueworld2003.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
Even though this poll didn't really apply to me, I filled it out anyway just so I could see the answers!

Signed in the other LJ.

You're the first one, Sue.

[identity profile] jans-intentions.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
I told you that I wasn't sure how I felt after I read the first part. I've talked to Kitty quite a bit about the story since she's following it and intend to dip in at a later time. I think part of my problem was you launched it when I was about to do Noel, so I had really no time for reading much of anything. I was reading everything there every day.

Anyway, I'm completely behind and I'm probably not very hip, but I'm going to probably splash here again, perhaps when you've just about closed up shop.

Are a lot of people reading and not commenting? Because of course when I read I always comment, so that won't be the case for me. And in a weird way I'm following it a little since Kitty is following it.

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not surprised you didn't feel like taking it on, Jan. It's very long and you were very busy.

Anyway, it'll still be here if you ever feel you want to give it another try.

Are a lot of people reading and not commenting?

I don't know. That's what I'm trying to find out. Looking at the poll results so far, the majority who've signed up and not commented just haven't managed to get round to reading it yet. However, I'm sure lots of people haven't seen it yet.

[identity profile] jans-intentions.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I read Furnitureverse almost when it was finished. I did comment on earlier bits a bit which I know is atypical when people catch up. I don't know what to say. If I'd been never going to read it and comment, I would have unfriended the community. I've always meant to come back again.

It could be the kink. Really, who knows. In Soapstone, I worked harder on the latest chapter and it got the least results. Also fb seems down lately. I can see people are reading but they aren't commenting as much.

I really can't figure things sometimes.

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-12 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno if this fic is much kinkier than Furnitureverse or Funeral Games. I guess the real difference is that the relationship between Spike and Wesley in those was consensual whereas here it very much isn't.

I was trying to see if I could write a proper slave fic but as usual, best laid plans etc

As for f/b being down in general, I don't post fic often enough to know really. It comes in waves and sadly has no bearing on how much work we've put into our writing.

[identity profile] jans-sanctuary.livejournal.com 2007-01-12 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I *will* be reading it. It has bothered me not to be reading it. I hope you won't feel bad about things, love, for any reason. You are sharing your talent with us and it's very brave and I know what it's like to be out there taking risks.

I appreciate it very much and you.

Thanks for sharing your art.
shapinglight: (Default)

[personal profile] shapinglight 2007-01-12 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, Jan, though really you're under no obligation.

And as far as sharing talent goes, you do the same and thank you for doing so.

[identity profile] aschicca.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Uh... I think I will have to choose the third option but with a little change: I am reading and enjoying but not commenting...on all the chapters.

And I skip those parts I told you about last time :)

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's fine.

In fact, I deliberately didn't include a question aimed at people who do comment but just not very often. I have them down as commenters, no matter the frequency. I know lots of people are busy and just don't have time to comment on every part, especially when a story is as long as this one.

It's nice to see you whenever you drop in, though.

[identity profile] maynarmi.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I too chose the third one with a little change. I am reading and enjoying the story I just don't comment on every chapter.

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
As I said to Aschicca above, that's fine. If people have commented, even if only a few times, I have them down as commenters. The poll is aimed at people who haven't commented at all. I'm jsut interested to know why that is.

Thanks for reading and I'm glad you're enjoying it.

[identity profile] darkapple.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi, Deborah!

I didn't respond to the poll because, of course, I'm both reading and commenting, although not on every chapter. But I'd be very interested to know whether there are a lot of lurkers reading and not commenting.

Is there any chance you could post the poll results for everyone to see?

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there any chance you could post the poll results for everyone to see?

I think I won't actually do that, though of course people can go and look at the results if they want.

I was just interested, that's all.

[identity profile] pjgale.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi, I actually saving it. We're having some really hot, 'stay in the house' days coming up and I'm going to read it in big chunks.

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
What a cute icon! I wouldn't like to get in that kitten's way!

Thanks for letting me know. I know there are all sorts of reasons why people haven't commented or have read and not commented (that happens all the time on LJ) - I was just interested to know the proportions.

[identity profile] deborahw37.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Guilty! I'm reading ( though I skipped a few bits having read the warnings) I'm enjoying , and increasingly intrigued ,but I'm sort of saving comments for the end , this is naughty!

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's not. It's fine. This is an awfully long story and though there's a bunch of hardy folk who comment on almost every post, I know even they won't be able to do it every single time. If you comment at the end and you've enjoyed it, that's all I need to know.

RL always has to come first.

Everything I checked is partly true--I'm only as far as I got when I commented to you over the weekend; I read up to there (with already-mentioned caveats) without commenting; will probably read more chapters first, before I comment again. But maybe not.

I am, as I said, enjoying the quality of writing a LOT.

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-11 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks - and I do appreciate your comments whenever you have time to make them.

To be honest, I'm surprised no one has yet ticked the box that says 'I read a few chapters and decided the story wasn't for me.' Someone may still do so, though.

[identity profile] sufie58.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm reading and enjoying and look forward to your updates. Love that you post chapters almost daily. I intend to comment but was going to wait until the end - hope that's ok?

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-11 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
Sure - that's fine. Knowing your enjoying it is great but it's so awfully long I certainly never expected that everyone would comment on every part.

[identity profile] desdomonda.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi, RL is keeping me very busy lately, but I have always intended to comment on this story I'm reading it whenever it comes up and I haven't commented yet, I'm a bad bad girl. But considering I've been moving from NJ to FL, I've been kept hopping. That's also the reason that I haven' been able to read the last couple of chapters. I really am enjoying this fic, you manage to push all of my buttons. I don't comment very often, I'm a lurker at heart. I'll try and make it a point to comment more often.

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-11 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hey there - nice to meet you. Please don't worry about the lack of commenting. Sounds to me like you've been horrendously busy in RL and it's a wonder you've found the time to read, let alone comment.

If you ever feel like leaving comments, that's fine, but otherwise just knowing you've been reading and enjoying is fine too. That was the purpose of this poll really.

[identity profile] kaysm95.livejournal.com 2007-01-11 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, just want you to know that I'm reading and REALLY enjoying (well, I was. The last week has been so busy that I'm about 3 entries behind, but I'm working on it!). I just tend to not comment until the end of a story. Sorry about that! But don't worry - it's great so far!

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-11 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
Hi.

:Waves:

Nice to meet you and to know you're enjoying the story. Not commenting till the end is fine. I certainly didn't expect everyone to comment on every part for the simple reason that I know how busy people are. I'm just glad you've wanted to find time in your schedule to read the story.

Thanks for letting me know.

I don't think I've missed yet. *smug* I've probably just jinxed something or other. *meep*

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-11 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hi, Kitty.

:Waves:

I'll take this opportunity to thank you for commenting the way you have been. I really, really appreciate it.

Do understand that RL comes first though, so I know there's bound to be times when you won't be able to do it.

[identity profile] kitty-poker1.livejournal.com 2007-01-11 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
Hi, Deb.

*waves back*

It's hardly been a hardship to comment. This is one of the most riveting stories I've ever read and I eagerly await every update. Even though it's not Spander! *gasp* I'm lucky that I have more time online than most of your readers and haven't had any problems keeping up so far. I can't guarantee that'll continue but I'm hoping.

The size of your posts is perfect for me. Just long enough to get into but not so long it's intimidating. Perfect!

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-12 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
,The size of your posts is perfect for me. Just long enough to get into but not so long it's intimidating. Perfect!

Glad to hear it. Sue only got 1000 words at a time. It seemed to work quite nicely (even if it was 10 months before she got the whole story).

[identity profile] cowboyguy.livejournal.com 2007-01-11 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Y'know, I don't know what's wrong with me, but I honestly forget to comment half the time... Maybe it's all those years of reading stuff on fanfiction.net, and I never commented then... I dunno. ^_^
But really, what I wanted to say is, I'm still reading the story, and I'm still loving it, and what'll probably happen is I'll give you one HUGE comment at the end of the story... But I'll try to break the habit and comment more in the future. ^_^

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-12 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hi - just wanted to say, don't worry about it. I have you down as a commenter because you have commented a few times. It's nice to know you're still reading but I certainly don't expect everyone to comment on every part. There's way too much of this fic for that.

[identity profile] uncouthbrkit.livejournal.com 2007-01-11 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I did the poll, mainly because I have major guilt about not commenting as often as I want to. Problem is sometimes don't get the chance to read - then beyond the warm glow of enjoying three or four posts consecutively there's also the fact that commenting on the older posts seems somewhat superfluous. Basically I'm reading every single syllable and am starting to feel quite resentful about the reading that has to be delayed to another day, just goes to prove that this story is addictive and should carry a government health warning.

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-12 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi.

:Waves:

Don;t worry about not commenting often. Like I've said to quite a few people in this thread, if you comment occasionally, I have you down as a commenter. The poll was really aimed at the large number of people friended to the LJ who haven't commented at all. At least I know what some of them are up to now.

Thanks for commenting here and it'll be great to hear from you whenever you do have time but really don't worry about not being able to do it more often.

[identity profile] nightlifeonly.livejournal.com 2007-01-12 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I started reading and enjoyed it really but than i had a break because of Christmas and when I came back I stumbled across lit-gal's *Second Verse* and between reading that, sleeping and working I hadn't time for anything else. It's also difficult for me to write comments, because I'm not very good in English writing I always think I make too many mistakes, but I promise when I start reading your fic again then I will commenting as before

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-12 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi, thanks for stopping by to comment. Don't worry about commenting often or anything like that. It's nice to know you're still reading but there's obligation to comment every time or anything. I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Also, your English seems absolutely fine to me.

[identity profile] kseenaa.livejournal.com 2007-01-12 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, since I am reading everything and commenting to, I guess it doesn't apply for me. ;-)

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it certainly doesn't - and thanks so much for both reading and commenting.

[identity profile] kseenaa.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
How could I not, when the story is so brilliant? ;-)

[identity profile] thismaz.livejournal.com 2007-01-13 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
When I asked to see this story, I said I was having trouble keeping up with reading, because November and December were, like, manic. You said, don't worry, each part is short. *Laughs* Each part may be short, but you post them so fast, the whole story has got away from me. Here we are at, basically, 70 chapters and I haven't managed to read any of them. I will get to it, once RL slows down a little bit. *sighs and hopes*

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi there. Thanks for letting me know. I saw your comment on Sue's LJ as well about how the story now stood at 84 parts and counting and you despaired of ever catching up.

I know it's an awful lot of to get through and it must seem very daunting at this juncture. However, if you ever do feel like giving it a go it'll be here. RL is going to get busier for me from next month so I may not be able to post quite so frequently.

Could you friend me?

[identity profile] justanapple.livejournal.com 2007-01-22 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi,
I adored your Furnitureverse; would you mind friending me so I can read Coming of Age? I read Furnitureverse when I was Pissedotter but I deleted that journal to stop me spending so much time on the web. Here I am back again as justanapple - apparently I can 'resist anything except temptation!' Very excited to see you have another series.

Re: Could you friend me?

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello. I think I remember your old LJ name from a while ago. Have friended you now so you can read the story.

Re: Could you friend me?

[identity profile] justanapple.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks very much. I'll let you know how I get on although I'll probably only comment every few chapters if that's ok. Will start reading straight away!

[identity profile] kudagirl.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't do the poll because I am reading and commenting on most of the chapters. Love the story.

[identity profile] glassdarklyuk.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. The poll is a bit redundant by now anyway.

[identity profile] spikesjojo.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
My access was denied - and I really do want to read it. Help! Sorry - very newbie here - pretend you are explaining to a Luddite, and you won't be far off!
